With Fadeo (Thaddeus) Haenke he visited Port Jackson, New South Wales, in 1793 as botanist on the Alejandro Malaspina expedition (Descubierta and Atrevida), collecting more than 1000 specimens, many of which were described by Antonio José Cavanilles in 1797-1800 (q.v.). His collections are at MA, with duplicates in B, C, DS, F, FI, KIEL, MPU and NY.
